I love doing podcasts, and I always try to be honest and open, but the one I did with Ink Pulp Audio (and my friend Shawn Crystal) is by far the best podcast I've ever done. We sat down in our hotel room at SDCC in 2012, poured a few bourbons and unleashed a raw, honest, and uncompromising conversation about religion, comics, and our history of trying to survive the industry. I wish all podcasts were like this, but few people are equipped to ask the right questions. Because Shawn's an old friend and really gifted SCAD teacher, I think he's easily becoming the Oprah of comics, and I mean that in a good way.
We start chatting about 15 minutes in, but I think the whole thing is worth a listen:

2. Thank you for being so open about such personal issues with your faith and family.
…The way the external factors of life (Friends, family, economics, relationships, religion/philosophy), effect the internal world of a creative person and what they drive us to create, is one of the topics I find most fascinating.
3. I was surprised to hear that you initially wanted PRJ to be printed in color. I'm usually a trade-waiter, but finding out the book was B/W is what got me off my ass into the comic shop to buy the whole run. I appreciate the colors on your previously published work, but every time you post a B/W page on DA, I would say "Goddamn! I would love to see a B/W Sean Murphy book." I'm down for whatever creative choices you make in the future, but I think B/W is huge plus for your work.
The realistic style mandate from Marvel and DC took me by surprise, though maybe it shouldn't have. Anyway, it was really interesting hearing how you got to where you are today, realistically and personally.
