Artist's Comments

I tried a little Kyle Baker style coloring by dropping the "flesh" lines into a color. Mostly everything else is a flat color. I'm annoyed when colorists over-render the details. A strong pallette that's well executed is holds up fine without over-rendering.

Although using colored zip might be considering rendering as well. Which means I'm a hypocrite.

I've seen more books ruined by Photoshop-addicted colorists in the last five years than by bad pencilers or inkers.

Just because you CAN add that extra layer of crap doesn't mean you HAVE to.

I hope you make an art book outta this. You could sell it at cons or whatever, ya know the whole "scholarly review" thing. It works. Really cool pic. The gunshots are great, and I love the folds on the shirts.

I think that your style of coloring works best for some masterfully rendered linework with a lot of indication of value already present. Basically, I think anybody who knows what they're doing/has some fun with their inks should adhere to your philosophy. Like, I'd hate to see panels from Bone all painterlied up.

I like the line holds, 'specially on their faces. I don't think the zippo is over-rendering, but I think it works much better with the line holds. I love how annoyed Frank looks about having to shoot people again.
