I'm starting a sketchbook which I'll hopefully have printed out next year before con season. I thought I'd start with some zipatone on a piece for Punk Rock Jesus.
Dude, I gotta tell you, as a Christian, I want to hate this project. At first, I didn't know what my feelings were for it. I remember over-hearing a conversation that you were having with a guy in L.A. about being an atheist, and from there my mind wondered into thinking that you were cynical about faith, and that this story would be a lashing out of those feelings. I kept trying and kept trying to keep my mind from going there. It's utterly stupid to judge what you don't know. But you can't help thinking what your thinking...you know? Firstly, I apologize that I never told you how I felt. Mostly, it's because I didn't know how I felt, neither did I have the words to express them. Secondly, just from the preview pages, and this shot right here, I almost get a sense that this is totally something different than what I think, and this probably exactly what Jesus would do! He'd have a mohawk, and a rockband, at least he'd hang out with a rockband! It's funny how those who think that they are totally close to Him on a daily basis, are sometimes so very far away. And those who have been stung so deeply, and hurt by the church have their fingers on the pulse and have an almost better sense of what's really going on. Every last one of us on this planet has been hurt by something in their lives, but sometimes Christians want to seem stronger and smarter than they are. I think that was my problem. I know their going to be things in your book that I won't agree with, but I am happy that you are doing this project. I'm really excited about it, and I'm thinking of buying some copies for some people I go to church with, they'd totally dig it, believe it or not. I envy your bravery to say what you believe in, and I hope that the more I know you, the more I can too...

\'Then you will call on me and come and pray to me, and I will listen to you. You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart.\'
I appreciate your honesty and I think I can releave some anxiety. I don't think that there's anything you'll disapprove of in the book. Maybe if I explained a little more then it would put your mind at ease:
It's not anti-faith at all. Some characters are religious, some are not. Some have other religions like "science" or "money" meaning that they live their life by those principles instead of by Christ. Some are hyprocrits and some see angels while others follow the Bible to the 'T'. It's just like real life. I'm going to do my best to represent all types fairly. The last thing I want is a pro-athiest message. The thing I DO want to speak out against is the ignorance of the USA and about how we should be thinking "this planet" and not "this country". Religion aside, I think we can all agree that in order for the human race keep moving forward there needs to be some changes and a lot more tolerance.
You hit it on the head: the main character is a lot like Jesus (except for being an athiest). People don't accept him, he's considered a rebel, and he's even got some apostles (the band) that believe in his message. And his message isn't anti God but rather pro-human race. If Christians read the book and are offended then I will have failed.
Again, thanks for the honesty. Whatever your feelings are I will totally respect. I realize that a lot of people (my parents included) can't get past the title. But hopefully they'll give it a shot. And I hope I didn't give too much away.

Daily Literature Deviations is a group that is dedicated to bringing literature to the forefront of the deviantArt community. We attempt to accomplish this by daily featuring Literature artists from around the community that deserve the recognition, but are not getting it.
Each day we will feature 10 deviations from the Literature categories in a News Article. In order to support the artists that we feature, we ask that you the news article as well as check out the individual pieces. We understand that each day you may not be able to check out each and every one of the pieces, everyone has their own things going on. We just ask that you make an attempt to help support the growing Literature community.
