Hi Sean, long time looker, first time questioner. The feeling of light in this piece is (trying to find a non-arse kissy word)...good...very good...

I really struggle with adding in greys with a brush and ink: they always come off uneven, or too dark, or muddy and usually ruin the paper. Any pointers on how not to bugger these up? And without trying to blame my tools, how much of an impact will the quality of paper play? Most of my sketches are simply done in a stock standard sketchpad from my local art store-whatever one has the highest GSM because I like to have them on hand when I have a spare few moments to sketch in.

The trick with grays is to not overdo them. Most of the piece should be either black or white with maybe 30% grays. Grays everywhere makes the piece lose focus. As far as paper, it depends on the ink you're using. Best to experiment a bit.

Yeah I've been keeping the stuff I color for fun to commissions. Should ask first on everything though. Thanks for always being cool about it! Had a guy give me shit not too long ago, so I cut back on doing stuff for fun.
