At first I told the colorist, Dave Stewart, that I wanted flats like in Screw on Head. He followed through but then called me to talk me into more of a painted feel. He understood that I was being a purist, but insisted that not using PS rendering was cutting ourselves off at the knees for no reason. And he was totally right! I'm glad he called me to task on that because the book will be beautiful. Not overdone like Joe, but not flat either. I count myself lucky to be surrounded by people who are looking out for me.
When you added the text to the signs and stuff, was this an example of you typing it out and then tracing it? or was the text added afterwards and is straight computer?
Well you know the nice thing about Dave's work is that he can do amazing things with three simple colors. He harmonizes them and makes the focal point of the panels stand out. His colors really enhance the storytelling and don't try to make things all jazzy and over done.
